Kaohsiung Customs said that there is an increasing trend in cases where customs seizes counterfeit goods and imposes fines. Due to the convenience of online shopping, consumers often purchase counterfeit goods without first confirming whether the trademark of the product is legally authorized.
The customs further explained that when customs inspects imported goods, if the incoming goods are suspected of infringing trademark rights, the customs will follow the provisions of the Customs Implementation Measures for Trademark Rights Protection Measures and ask the trademark owner to confirm whether the incoming goods infringe the registered trademark. If it is determined that the trademark rights are infringed, the customs will refer the case to the judicial authorities for investigation and conduct criminal proceedings or administrative penalties based on the results of the investigation.
The Kaohsiung Customs reminds consumers that common counterfeit items in imported goods are mostly brand-name luxury watches, bags, clothing, or 3C electronic and motor parts, etc. There are many types of goods. Before purchasing goods online, consumers should confirm whether the trademark of the product is legally authorized to avoid accidentally falling into the law and losing more than they gain.
