Taipei Customs stated that in response to the recent escalation of US-China trade frictions, in addition to continuing to actively investigate the origin of counterfeit labels, the customs also cooperated with the Ministry of Economic Affairs to take relevant control measures to prevent goods from other countries from being illegally transshipped to the United States through our country. In order to strengthen the awareness of legal compliance in the free trade zone business and avoid accidental violation of laws, the customs agency held the first "Taoyuan Aviation Free Trade Zone Business Related Law Promotion Conference" on May 9, 2015.
This promotion meeting was attended by nearly all the representatives of the free trade zone enterprises under the jurisdiction of the customs, and the response was enthusiastic. During the meeting, key topics such as "origin identification", "correct labeling of origin", "preliminary review of origin for exports to the United States", and "declaration of origin of goods exported to the United States" were promoted and explained. It is hoped that through the promotion of regulations and case sharing, the questions of the industry can be resolved, while at the same time the professionalism of free trade zone practitioners can be enhanced.
Taipei Customs further explained that in order to prevent illegal transshipment (laundering of origin) of goods from other countries to Taiwan and affect our country's trade reputation, Customs has strengthened prevention and control at various customs clearance points, and at the same time expanded the density and intensity of inspections in the free trade port area to prevent illegal cases from occurring. The customs reminded that if free trade port enterprises are involved in illegal transshipment of goods shipped to the United States, they may be fined up to NT$300,000 in accordance with Article 38 of the Free Trade Port Zone Establishment and Management Regulations.
The Taipei Customs finally called on businesses to strictly follow the relevant regulations on export goods declaration, and looked forward to working with the industry to create a sound and compliant free trade port operation mechanism to jointly safeguard the country's overall economic and trade development.
